2011 TREZ Pokémon Tournament

Hosted by Yatterman-2 aka Torchman

Rules written by Saberman

Entries Begin: February 28, 2011

Entries End: April 13, 2011 (will be extended if there are not enough competitors)

Round 1 Begins: April 19, 2011 (6 days given to give the host(s) time to prepare the brackets)

~Tournament Rules~
-All battles will be fought 6 on 6 Single Battle style using Pokémon Online, a battle simulator. The program could be found here: http://www.pokemon-online.eu/

*Regarding the Program*
1. Use the Team Builder to build your team. This program prevents ALL cheating, so illegal movesets or stats are not possible. Please keep and utilize all 510 EVs available. If you need help building teams as far as strategy goes, use this link to help you out.
2. Please create your Trainer using your current TREZ name to make it easy to recognize you.
3. A server will be created especially for TREZ to use for the tournament so non-TREZians cannot access the server. The name and password to enter the server will be posted shortly.
4. During EACH match in the tourney, AT LEAST 2 users must have Pokémon Online open, present on the aforementioned server, and select "Become a Spectator/Watch This Battle" and become spectators. These two or more users will be watching the battle to the end and observing the battle logs. This is to have a witness for disconnects and/or be rules consultants/judges (i.e., someone uses a Pokémon that they didn't register, use Gen. 5 stuff, etc.)

Banned Pokemon and Abilities

-Entrants may register two additional Pokémon (aside from their team of 6) to swap into their team between battles. If a competitor is caught using a Pokémon aside from the total of 8 registered, that competitor will be disqualified.

-There will be 32 total entrants in the tournament. If there is not enough it will be cut down to 16.

Final Notes:
Prize will be announced later on.

So guys, let me wrap this up...The suspected Ubers, as well as Genesect, Zekrom, Reshiram, Kyurem (which has a slack signature move BTW.), Meleotta as well as Salamence, Garchomp, and the abilities, Shadow Tag and Drizzle + Swift Swim are banned? So should the 2 Legendary Trios of Isshu be banned as well? (Landorus, Tornadus, Thundurus; Virizion, Cobalion, Terakion). I just want to post the invitation on Smogonians already. (I know i should've but you guys decided to go Gen V..XD.)

PS: Are you thinking about banning previous Gen Legends too?

The amount of stall I can see coming from this tournament is amazing.

@Toushiro56, please read the first post carefully, and research Pokemon Online before you start this.

Yep, read the first post carefully (EXCEPT for the part about the Banned Pokemon; we're working on that part now). Rules and guidelines are clear. The "2 Pokemon in reserve" concept should be pretty common sense. Basically, they're "backups" to switch in and out with the Pokemon on the main team between battles to account for type weaknesses against the next opponent's team, possibly to change the strategy of your own, etc. If you have ever been familiar with the Yu-Gi-Oh card game, these two reserve Pokemon could be thought of as the Side Deck.

My question is, why not just be able to change team after every round?

Also, are the spectators others in the contest?
If so, they will be able to see your strategy, and have an advantage in a battle against you.
If not, where will we find these people?

I was trying to make it like an actual Pokemon League Championship, where, excuse my reference to the horrid anime, Ash used pretty much the same team every round except a few changes here and there. Also, using the same team shows that you've mastered the team and all of its ins and outs, showing your skill to its fullest potential.

Second, yes, the spectators will be the other competitors. And no, they will not have an advantage, because they can't change the Pokemon in their team. If they change the movesets and EVs to combat your strategy (which is allowed), then so be it. Your team should be still versatile enough to still put up a good fight. Besides, YOU as well are able to change the movesets and EVs after each battle, so they really aren't picking up any sort of advantage other than the Pokemon you used, which have already been shown to the public beforehand. Besides, I've fought in dozens of tournaments where the other competitors were the spectators. It's just like in sports. Each team videotapes potential future opponents so they can prepare themselves. No harm done there, both squads don't get any better or worse other than refining skills and changing their style of play temporarily, which could be equated to the change of style resulting from EV and moveset changes. They don't trade players after every game, they have to work as much as they could with what they got.

I'm not gonna give away my strategy, but suffice to say that if you can predict what I'm gonna do, you can counter it with any team. It is VERY unpredictable for 5//6 of my pokemon though.

On the other hand, I have beaten several teams of OP people, like Arceus and Mewtwo. Prediction is everything for me, and I'm gonna go ahead and guess its not only gonna be me who has that problem.

I think any spectators should not be tourney participants, or at least not be in a close branch to you.

You can set the battles to allow no spectators. And I really don't think anyone in this tournaments gonna cheat somehow or lie about who won. Also, its not like there is a prize involved so its really not that serious. No spectators should be fine (or the battlers choice)

Just because it isn't serious, doesn't mean it should be fair.
I say we scrap the spectators, or have an impartial judge.

It's whatever for me. I don't really care either way. I was just giving my two cents on what I thought it should be, but in the end I'm not pushing for anything. It's really up to Torch. I just want to battle.

However, I AM making an edit to the rules I wrote:

-The team's EVs, IVs, Natures, and Movesets may be edited between battles to keep things from getting predictable, but the 8 registered Pokemon must stay all of the same Species (i.e. editing the Charizard on your team to be a physical sweeper instead of a special one, but you cannot change to something other than a Charizard).

Not yet. There still lies the issue of the finalized banned list by Torch (Yatterman). Once that is finished, I will make a final revision to the rules finalizing everything, then we're ready to get this show on the road.

Kkz. Just making sure. The list is looking something like this right?
Gen 4 Ubers + Slaking, Dragonite, Metagross, Salamence, Garchomp, Hydriegon, Tyranitar, Haxorus + Then Gen 5 Legendaries (The trios) as well as the Pseudo Legends (Does this count Volcarana?)
The ability Shadow Tag, Swift Swim and Drizzle on the same team.

Sweeticles.
I'm happy with the EV and Moveset edits (are nature, IV and item edits also good?)
My team does not use max IVs for all of my pokemon's stats.

Yes. I edited my earlier post so Torch can add that in.

Aside from the fact that we have 8/16 of the minimum participants (and I don't think that we will get many more) we are almost good to go.

Also, exactly how does one register their pokemon for the tournament?
I'm guessing we don't just post them in this topic, that'd be incredibly stupid.
A huge part of pokemon PvP is the fact that the opponent doesn't know your team.

@First thing: I and a couple other people, including SurviveOdin, have connections that we haven't utilized just yet. We'll make it to 16, I'm sure.

@Second thing: There's no other choice if we want to verify it. That's actually what we were were going to do, albeit stupid, like you said. We could possibly try something unique like register the Pokemons' types or something rather than their name. Whatever it takes to be able to register your team publically so everyone who may potentially fight you can stop you from cheating without revealing what species they actually are. Any ideas?

This is where we need an impartial judge.
If we can't find one before we get enough contestants, I'll drop out, and be said judge.
I would get eliminated in the second round if people knew my pokemon, and could observe my strategy.
People can PM their 8 to the judge, and he can be the spectator, if we find it necessary.
