2011 TREZ Pokémon Tournament Hosted by Yatterman-2 aka Torchman Rules written by Saberman Entries Begin: February 28, 2011 Entries End: April 13, 2011 (will be extended if there are not enough competitors) Round 1 Begins: April 19, 2011 (6 days given to give the host(s) time to prepare the brackets) ~Tournament Rules~ -All battles will be fought 6 on 6 Single Battle style using Pokémon Online, a battle simulator. The program could be found here: http://www.pokemon-online.eu/ *Regarding the Program* 1. Use the Team Builder to build your team. This program prevents ALL cheating, so illegal movesets or stats are not possible. Please keep and utilize all 510 EVs available. If you need help building teams as far as strategy goes, use this link to help you out. 2. Please create your Trainer using your current TREZ name to make it easy to recognize you. 3. A server will be created especially for TREZ to use for the tournament so non-TREZians cannot access the server. The name and password to enter the server will be posted shortly. 4. During EACH match in the tourney, AT LEAST 2 users must have Pokémon Online open, present on the aforementioned server, and select "Become a Spectator/Watch This Battle" and become spectators. These two or more users will be watching the battle to the end and observing the battle logs. This is to have a witness for disconnects and/or be rules consultants/judges (i.e., someone uses a Pokémon that they didn't register, use Gen. 5 stuff, etc.) Banned Pokemon and Abilities -Entrants may register two additional Pokémon (aside from their team of 6) to swap into their team between battles. If a competitor is caught using a Pokémon aside from the total of 8 registered, that competitor will be disqualified. -There will be 32 total entrants in the tournament. If there is not enough it will be cut down to 16. Final Notes: Prize will be announced later on. Please post any questions here. No legendaries. Unless you can give me a good reason for any specific one as to why I should allow it. I'm unsure of B/W(Gen IV) being able to battle Gen IV ones so basically NOPE. @Eji: Eh not really. I called it mainly because it allows us, the participants, assistants, and head, to spot cheaters. The elimination of that Pikachu makes it easier. And a team of 8 is so that you at least have SOME change in your line up for each round. You won't know for sure what your opponent has and vice versa. Edited by Doom, Feb 27 2011, 05:07 PM.

I feel like I should be a co-host since I came up with the idea. Not that it matters anyway. The prize could be a TREZ title like "Poke Master" or "Cool Trainer". Something like that. Anyway if more people join, i'm in. |

Eh I see nothing wrong with your team. Has version, friend code, and team along with a single move. Your good to go. @Thunder: Eh true but I can't give a prize forum related without Nemo's permission and approval >_> Probly a temporary Pokemon master PiP would be the best prize though. |

Why are the Trios banned? Most of them aren't cheap and are used quite a bit in the competitive circuits. I think the ban list should consist of everything on this list: http://www.smogon.com/dp/tiers/uber These bans are not by legendary status, but by battle effectiveness and broken-ness as well as cheap move pools and stats. Also, I suggest using this to conduct the tournament. Some people don't have battle-ready teams on their DS's and because of the quick TeamBuilder built within the program, it will reduce the amount of time needed to train. People are busy. This is also good because since every Pokemon has max IVs (Individual Values), one doesn't have to worry about obtaining a good Pokemon to train, all of them are on the same level which removes any unfair advantages and puts all of the effort to win on the player's actual skill and knowledge to distribute Effort Values (EVs) and select movesets and items. This also makes battles quicker because of the DS's occasional lag and overall slow speed when playing on Wifi. Since the program is computer-based, there will be little chance of a D/C on purpose; if one disconnects on purpose, it will say that person forfeited no matter what. Also, with this program it is impossible to cheat because of stat max limits and a Pokemon can only have its legitimately obtainable moves. PLUS: To make spotting and proving someone a cheater even easier (even though it's pretty much impossible already), other users can "watch" the battle in progress by becoming a "Spectator" and viewing the battle logs as the battle commences. Latios' and Latias' Soul Dew. But it doesn't matter because they're both banned (on both your "legendary" list and Smogon's Uber tier, the one I'm suggesting we use because it sorts by battle effectiveness, not legendary status) anyways. Sorry about that, I battle competitively so I have a tendency to do that. xD Maybe try a Flygon if you're trying to match Mence (not Mance, but Mence, as in Sala"mence") in speed, or Dragonite for pure power. Edited by Saberman, Feb 27 2011, 06:54 PM.

Yeah, that list was the first thing I learned when I started playing competitive for the first time. I have plenty of other choices, I just prefer Mence the best. |

Alrighty so... I'll update the rules tomorrow kids. We'll be going by the uber list for banned pokemon, however you may only have two legendaries as well. We'll be doing it on Pokemon Online as well. Same rules for teams apply. 8 pokemon and you have to list one move. |

@EjiWing, I don't blame you. Mence is literally a beast and arguably the most well-rounded and powerful non-Legendary out there. I personally used three variations of it (e.g. different movesets, EV distributions, etc.) before the ban. That makes a lot more sense. 2 legendaries (of course taking into consideration the Uber list) is a good and fair number. I personally only usually use 1 of the legal Legends most of the time. I'm excited for this now. I'll create a server just for this tournament and will post the password to it so no one else other than TREZians can access the server. The only bad thing is I may not participate because my internet (INCLUDING my home internet) is incredibly bipolar and will even disconnect my COMPUTER from time to time. Hopefully I get a new modem before the tourney begins. EDIT: Are you going to allow people to use Gen. 5 Pokemon? Because PO has them already. I'm personally against the usage of them since some people haven't played the game yet and the ones who have will have an unfair advantage. Edited by Saberman, Feb 27 2011, 07:39 PM.

Alright, cool. Makes things fair, more traditional, and overall less annoying. Even I don't even know much about the new ones. Not to mention, most of them look incredibly cheesy. xD |

Well we don't even know the uber ones as well. Meaning this could easily be broken too if they are allowed so gotta be safe.

Indeed. It makes a lot more sense to just go 1-4. Reasons being the unknown Ubers that Gen. 5 might contain as Torch said, as well as everyone having to formulate new strategies to accommodate the new Pokemon and their moves. @Torch: With this being said, you should disallow all Gen. 5 new moves and items as well, since Gens 1-4 Pokemon can learn and hold them. Anything from Gen. 5 should be disallowed to prevent any unfair advantages. Edited by Saberman, Feb 27 2011, 07:48 PM.

Ok so from this moment forth Saber shall be the co-chief of the tourney whether he likes it or not cus he's so freaking helpful. So anything Gen 5 is BANNED. If I see a single Gen 5 item/move/pokemon, your disqualified. Now no more posting until tomorrow when I can update the rules unless saber has the power to do so :S |

I have a lot on my plate already, you can give the co-host to someone else. I'll just help out wherever I can and provide resources. Also, I can rewrite the rules, I'll just edit off the old RELS tournament rules we had. The rules for that tournament were well-balanced and the competition itself was fair and wholesome.
