One thing always bothered me, how and why did Pokemon manage to Pokemon manage to outlast this series and any other series? The games themseleves aren't that bad but I was kind of expecting some more out of it and I was kind of expecting some more improvement, not just more restrictions. Why did Pokemon end up more successful in the regards to the sales and the Nintendo systems they had? Did sequelitis get the better of the EXE series?

I've got a simple answer to your question. In North America the Pokemon series is considered as a classic game in the video game industry. I believe it's the first of it's kind in RPG gaming. Many people were used to games like Final Fantasy style RPG at that time (I think FF series came out before pokemon) but when Pokemon came out it was revolutionary! The fact that you capture creatures and train them and watch them evolve, battle trainers, trade etc. This was totally new concept in RPG gaming. It gained popularity through the Anime as well. So, many people liked it more then most other games at that time. In fact, the Pokemon games are my favorite videogame series!

I like the pokemon gameplay, but the "pokemon" theme dont suit to me.

Oh come on,cutting attacks,Flamethrower and Eletrica attacks but we never heard the word "die","death","kill" and whatever, and I never saw one pill of blood in the anime,Cutting attacks+no pill of blood=WTF is going on?!

"What you and I see are totally different.
All you're seeing is life. You don't understand death at all. That's why you can't kill me, and you're only able to kill a weakened woman.
If you could see death, you couldn't maintain your sanity. All you can perceive is the part which keeps things alive.
If you could see death——you couldn't even manage to stand.
... Being able to see the 'death' of things mean you're forced to see the world's fragility and uncertainty.
The ground is like it's not there, and the sky seems about to fall at any moment.
... You don't know of the illusion that the whole world could perish in an instant.
That is what it means to see death. These eyes, this power isn't something you can boast about like you did.
That's your mistake, vampire. Life and death may be back to back, but they shall never face each other.
I'll show you.
This is what it means to kill something."

Obviously there's no blood because it's a KIDS show/game. The Pokemon anime is obviously aimed toward 5-10 year olds now. I watched a pretty recent episode, and it is really censored(as in the "bad guys(not team rocket)" are not really mean) and the action isn't really exciting. As for the series, it's alive because Nintendo has put TONS of money advertising Pokemon. There is the long living anime, the card game, manga, and the games. They also at least have 2 games a year, to keep the player hooked. The games are also "addicting" because they are perfectly challenged, and allow tons of freedom. The games aren't too challenging, and allow to over 100 creatures, opposed to the 3-5 main characters you stuck to in traditional RPGs.

True. And I begin to think Pokemon is more important than Mario on Nintendo eyes.So long Mario.

No, mario is still popular since "Mario Sports Mix" came out, and how the Pokemon series are still good is the graphics, music, the design of the pokemon, also tough gym leaders for intense battles.

Don't come with that,GBA most known game was Pokemon Crystal and Emerald, and probably the most known DS game will be Black and White,Mario is getting boring with sports, although fun.

So basically,Pokemon is a game that need a lot of hours to play, and it's on a portable console, meaning that you can pretty much play on every free time that you see.Maybe the only reason that makes GBA and DS so famous is Pokemon Franchise,if there no pokemon games,i say that the DS and GBA popularity will drop 20%(it's dont sound much, but 20% of all popularity, and there million of GBA games that we never know).

And Pokemon hit right on the jackpoint when we talk about style.RPG and Strategy style is good for portable reason due to how time-consuming it is,Take Fire Emblem,MMBN series,Advance Wars and Final Fantasy for instance, you need more or less 2 days to complete the story, and I don't even want know how much time you need to complete side-quests.

And Spyman is right about freedom, you can pretty much go to every place that you saw on anime. And possiblity to have 450 "friends" to help you journey is quite fun, meaning that have almost endless combos to have.

And each Pokemon game come with a unique thing that makes them good engough to be brought even if you have another copy, take Ruby and Compare to Diamond, you will se differences quickly.Tag team battles, animation as soon has he appears on combat, more moves,Wi-fi thing, etc. That makes every Pokemon game unique and quite fun.

But don't think because of this that old pokemon is bad, they are very good games, and they have a thing that outclasses the other(altough is worse on praticaly on everything):The Nostalgia.

Seriosly, did you even get a feeling to play a good old-school game like mario world?that is the same for pokemon fans, and quite frankly, its reminds me a little of MMBN,both first games are broken,Mewtwo never dies while you will never lose on MMBN 1.

Sorry for bad english

Don't forget, EXE is an extension of the still running Rockman series. So EXE shouldn't be compared to Pokemon at all! The only reason the EXE series and anime ended is because the GBA era ended, and they tried to pass the torch to RnR and... well, we know how that turned out.

I mean, it was a popular hit, but Pokemon always rose above it, just like every other Nintendo game.

At least Nintendo shows some restraint with the main series of games..... Spacing out the main releases for every two years where as capcom churns out the expected games once or twice a year. THAT is the partly the reason EXE failed to last as long as pokemon.

Nintendo had always improved on it's graphic when it came to Pokemon, they've added new creatures to almost all the Pokemon games. They had the idea of GTS system (which was a great idea). Basically, everytime Nintendo had released a new Pokemon game, they had always added something cool and fresh that made you want to play their games over and over again.

Capcom prefer quantity over quality, that why they throw a bunch of crappy games for us to play, still,MMBN is a great game franchise, while Pokemon is way older and more famous, thats why Megaman EXE dont have same popularity as Pokemon

It's not just that it's older and more popular. Nintendo's quality for it's games are just simply superb, with every game that they make (Except for Other M) everyone liked any updates or changes that they've made. While Megaman games had only minor changes (except for the switch from BN3 to 4).

Let's put it like this. While I love both series, Pokemon is on a "higher plane" than the MMBN series. I mean if the Pokemon games was only native to Japan and MMBN was released everywhere else, then it would be different. But that's not the case. Pokemon was thought up years before MMBN ever came to Capcom's minds.
Once Pokemon was introduced to the world, it spread like a virus. The condition:everyone liked it. MMBN just didn't gain the popularity that Pokemon acheived. Maybe if they released more games during their time and actually put a more concentrated focus on the series, then it would've lasted longer. In the end of the day though, MMBN just couldn't get that status that Pokemon got as of now.

Quit bitching over other M. Seriously. If it wasn't for the attempt to give her some character/life then you wouldn't be saying anything about it. And oh I can find a couple of games where people complained...(COUGHWINDWAKERCOUGH)

Also at least Nintendo takes time between releases. It avoids oversaturated its series genres with its own games as well as quality and uniqueness. Thats how Activision gave Guitar Hero its grave, and thats how FPS will end up soon if it keeps up with CoD releasing a new one each year.

Even if it weren't for that pitiful attempt, there's still the fact it plays like a poor man's Ninja Gaiden, with absolutely no replay value. That's quite the dubious accomplishment; becoming even more linear than Fusion. At least that game had cool bosses.
