Well, today I was watching Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season, and I am watching the English version on YouTube because of Mega Video. When I was watching one of the episodes a curse was said, and at that time my dad was walking by me. He heard the curse being said, and my mom and dad BEING EXTRMELY OVER PROTECTIVE said I was not allowed to watch anymore until they watch an episode and O.k. it. This is really frustrating because my parents are super protective, I understand that they love me but a teenager has to have some space. Do you know what I mean? Is there any way I can talk to my parents and see if the can lighten up a little?

Explain to them why language is sometimes needed in a story. If you have any school literature with swearing or worse, present it to them and show them that these things are everyday evils that society has come to accept. Or negotiate them and ask them what offends them so much about curse words.

Or just watch with headphones next time. :p Actually what DJ brings up are really good points, I'm pretty sure you could sway your parents with that.

That's exactly what I do. iPod when they're home, Apple TV when they're not.

I also hate it when that happens. But I don't give a shit to them about simple matters like this.
Heck, I even fight in school without them knowing, and I curse all the time anywhere.

Well, maybe not the fighting, but same for me.
Ignore them, most of the time, they will not follow through.

English dub? The worse a normal dub will use is 'damn' or 'crap'. If those are the curse words, that's something to complain about. If it's fine on Primetime TV, it's okay to use it in life is what a teacher told me.

If it's a sub, it's the fansubber's fault. They normally play up the language, a lot.

Your situation is perfectly normal. Although, my parents don't care about curses. But I do have friends that complain about situations such as yours. I suggest going with the "swaying method". Don't try to put on headphones, it'll attract more attention, they'll be more curious as to why your putting on head phones. If that doesn't work then show them an episode. Preferably an episode that isn't rather vulgar or contain vulgarity.

OhGawd, over protective parents are the worse.
Personally I don't think they should over-react like that saying that every movie I know of has curse words in it. =/

Exactly, like a rated film that had violence, language, and nudity which was the only time I had over-protective parents.

[offtop]Except for the time I played Halo Combat Evolved for the Xbox, which was rated Mature and I wasn't in the age limit, my parents never said a thing, even though the game had blood, language, and violence.[/offtop]

... Uh.. Okay... No..
I'd say, depending on your age, just tell them that you're growing up, and don't want to sit around watching Pooh Bear All day.

...

Cursing at your parents isn't exactly a friendly method.... (Yeah, that post deserves about 3 facepalms...). Just tell them that it's no big deal, since you're growing up.

That could be the worst option to be done, boy. You can tell your father "Dad, I'm growing up, you cannot see your child not hearing a swear, so do you."
Gold Star for me! Oh wait! Its covered with dog shit! sparkles! Oh well im sure I will still love it! Posted Image

Only 3, bro? I've been thinking more along the lines of 20. =/. If I ever did that to my parents, it would be over in a heartbeat.

I sense that we're getting off-topic. I've never had the issue with my parents on the matter of cursing. I remember I cursed once, my dad didn't care at all. But then again, it depends on the sensitivity levels of your parents and there opinion on cursing.
