Forgive me if i get too shy but maybe you're the reason why I love you.
Well, I made a video of MRE's Portal Tutorial. It's not that great, but it's not public. It's only viewable to the people who have the URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrLyjt7qi3E

That's an awesome tutorial. Do you think it would be possible to recreate the same thing in GIMP?

You could try.

99.9999999 percent of techniques shouldn't be held to one program. If GIMP truly is a free substitute for PS it should be able to do it.

Yeah, you just need to figure out the names of the options of the distortions.

You're no limited to everything in this technique, in fact, there are a lot of different ways of doing this to achieve the same effects. Experiment.

Gimp can replicate that. I'm still trying so I'll get there eventually. (When I'm not lazy that is.)

Exactly. Sometimes, I or someone else may pull off incredible effects that people have done before, but the ways in which it was done are drastically different.

Wow. It looks almost exactly like the tutorial example. I've since developed variations to the technique. I've tried using a tile filter to use the squares and project that. I've also considered using fourths of background parts to distort in perspective towards the center. Also, the light and dark balance of the gradients greatly changes the starburst effect. It can have longer, grayer spokes and be used differently.

The only I am having trouble with is coming up with a good Megaman game logo. You know like the one you made for Legacy. :|

Also, what fonts did you use?

Gimp has MOST of Photoshop's filters. I have scripts that add power to my Gimp's fighting stats.

Offtopic: I am not the almighty god of photoshop. I am the almighty WARRIOR of photoshop. MegaRock is the almighty god of photoshop.

Offtopic: There is truth to that. My bad. You're still the almighty WARRIOR of photoshop. DSDS is the almighty REBEL of photoshop. GTFO, DSDS.

If he hands the font, or maybe request that he makes it for us (by us I mean me and some friend) the banner himself since he's epic like that.

The Legacy logo uses two fonts: Bitsumishi and Magistral. Bitsumishi is the font used where it says Megaman and the two versions. It kind of looks like the Powerade font. Magistral I assume is a pay font but it came bundled with a game Greiga Master downloaded and has a regular weight, bold, and oblique.

Looking at this portal tutorial again, I would replace the circle step with something else. Try rendering clouds and pixelating them. Erase parts of the top and bottom leaving a bar about 1/3 the total height. Use Levels to heighten the contrast greatly. Polar Coordinate the layer and you're done. The size of the shape should change the distortion. Alternately, the shape can be manipulated in perspective using the transform tools but I haven't figured out how to use this effectively without looking too awkward.

That is starting to get off topic. It was all done in vector. I created an outer ring which was cut up and extensions added.
