They shouldn't mess with the classics. Look at the recent Tom and Jerry movies. All but maybe one or two are horrible. I don't like the newer style and they shouldn't mess with it. |

The problem with the newer ones is that they have to remove replicable violence in order to stay with standards of childrens' television. Look at Spy vs. Spy Jr. This is a toned down version of their older counterparts for MAD Kids. |

I loved the original series. My brother and I watched it every day a few years ago. It's a classic, so my parents watched when they were younger as well. And I don't think the violence is offensive nor do I think anyone should be offended by it. Most of it is really comical and far-fetched anyways. It was never anything close to gruesome.

It's not the question of whether it was violent, rather if it was replicable. Young children often act out what they see on television. Don't want anyone taking a hammer to the toe now, would we? |

Most of us was watching it and I doubt that any of us was thinking about banhammering someone from our arounds. The problem is, that there is a group of people, commonly known as idiots-who-don't-know-real-life, who think that they "know better" what's good for children and what isn't. Even few years ago violence, soft erotic, alcohol was acceptable in TV and kids movies. That was some parts to laugh for kids and sometimes to educate (do not drink much or you will be walking same as that drunk guy). But seems like that good times are gone and idiots conquered TV. And did taken from the sky something like PG. |

Yeah, exactly. While the violence was replicable, it was very unlikely to be actually replicated. Why do people play violent video games? It's all in the eyes of the beholder. Edited by Saberman, Sep 25 2010, 02:45 PM.

Honestly the old series like Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny and Looney Toons are the best they always made me laugh. Now all of these new cartoons are crap compared to the classics. |

If you're going that far, I'd have to say that Tom and Jerry are derived from Looney Toons in a way. If you watched both like I have, you would notice that the violence is pretty much the same but on a smaller scale with Tom and Jerry. |

Yeah I would agree with that. Out of every 5 new cartoons these days, maybe 1 (if that) is even watchable. |

They are still airing the old Tom and Jerry episodes, so it doesn't matter. |

I know that, but it seems that at least 1 of them was played the day before. |

Ahh, the good old days. ![]() I used to watch this in my television. Classics like this and Looney Toons were the best before. Kids these days won't see the classics by now. And parents would shoo them off the TV when they see one pickle of violence. |

Ah Tom and Jerry. The most favourite show I watch since childhood till now(wait I think 11 is still childhood) . It's very funny and a bit educational(like don't tap dance too hard or the whole palace will get an earthquake lol) . Ever since 2005 most cartoons or should I say ALL cartoons sucks. Take Spongebob as an example. Starting like season 5 spongebob became g**. But anyway they still air old episodes of cartoons and Tom and Jerry so I'm still happy. |

I loved the formula of Tom and Jerry. The watching of cat tries to kill mouse while the mouse mostly wins in the ends made me laugh XD. Now cartoons just suck. There are reality shows on a cartoon network. Spongebob is not worth watching anymore because of its plain stupidity. Stuff like Tom and Jerry and Looney Toons have funny stupidity that people like to laugh at. Back on topic, Tom and Jerry is a great cartoon. |

What i noticed in Tom and Jerry is that there are different versions of the same episodes. For example, there was one episode where Tom had to keep the house clean, and later Jerry ruined the house by bringing in a coal truck. The coal flooded the house and Tom and the lady were swept out. Now here is the difference. In american television, Tom gets out of the coal pile and slinks away. But when i watched it in India Tom gets out and the lady questions him. She is like "Thomas!!" . But Tom acts strangely. His face, black with coal, and his lips, swollen and pink, give him the appearance of a stereotypical black guy (please don't ban me for this). He then says something unintelligible like "No ma'am, I didn't do anything no ma'am" and then she screams "Thomas!!" and he runs and she knocks him out with coal. My view on this is that the stereotypes are politically incorrect in America, and so they have been omitted. Another example of this is in the episode where Jerry spins him around on the record player. In India, Jerry flips the record to a Chinese type track (what we know as Chinese music), and Hanna + Barbera give him the appearance of the stereotypical Chinese person with the long, thin beard, the wrinkles, the eyes, etc. (i apologize to everyone). In the American version, this was omitted. What do you guys think of this? |

Tom and Jerry, the most funniest cartoon back when I was a kid. I loved it. I don't see how some users are saying that it depicts violence, it depicts cartoon violence. There's a huge difference between those two. Kids are not going to carry hammers around that's for sure, and they know they won't be able to defy gravity until they realize that they did. I mean it's kind of obvious right? Anyway Tom and Jerry is still funny |
