Can anyone give me some suggestions on getting better at making graphics? The one I made yesterday using Bugstyle Megaman was my first shot and the one I made today was a lot better, but not great. I want to get better because I promised my brother I'd make him a graphic.

EDIT: By the way, I'm using GIMP and not PS.

There are several members on here proficient using GIMP, one of them being the user known right now (I don't know for how much longer) as Cosmic Darkness. There are a few others too. I'm pretty good at graphics but I'm mainly a PS user. There isn't much difference, but it's still better to get a user who uses the actual program for help, so we'll wait for one.

I see Cosmic Darkness here, anyway you should try to use PS, but I guess since you don't have it, it leaves you with GIMP and Paint.Net. I personally prefer Paint.Net, even though I haven't even used it. That's because Paint.Net has layers, that are easily usable(I think). Layers are a must when you make Graphical stuff.

f***! D:

PS is expensive (you can still crack it). However, you'd have to get used to nearly EVERY filter that PS has and Gimp is much more simple than PS.

BTW Saber, I'm retiring from GFX when I die P:

I'm just saying, if you're a beginner you should stick with Paint.Net(PS if you have it). GIMP is too confusing, the time I used it I was pretty confused.

The problem isn't which one I can use. I understand both Paint.NET and GIMP well enough to be able to basic things. My real problem is trying to make effects like in Cosmic Darkness and Eternal signatures.

For starters, it's best to go to a website to learn to make good looking effects in Gimp here.
This website teaches good stuff, and eventually, you'll learn to make GFX on your own. I'm sure you'll know how to make GFX on your own <OK>

Oh, and by the way, you might want to get some C4D renders because those renders give nearly every signature a powerful effect

Only if used correctly. If you just randomly put them in their, it makes it more unappealing than the original.

First off you should start making BG's, and stick Renders on it, make it match, add some little effects and stuff.

Then you start adding C4d's and other effects.

Don't forget, Gimp has a secret extension known as "Script Fu" (I lol'd at Kung Fu :3)

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be messing with scripting to make images. I guess I should really get good at some abstract things before doing signatures. Thanks for more suggestions.

Script Fu is what gives Gimp it's secret layer effects. So technically, Script Fu makes Gimp look like Photoshop in a layer effect way
