From my testing (ab can side with me on this since we were talking) it seems that S rank is most commlonly the tenth 16bit value for navis. I tested it with Test mega, Protoman, Falzar, Spoutman, and groundman. I know fully well it negates the other 4 remaining slots(which should work but I never could get them too.) that go beyond it, but I'm just throwing out there from my own experience what seems to happen.
If you bothered reading my description of things you'd see its the same thing as what i said, except i described how it get the tenth slot >.>
I bothered reading, but never was really awake enough to understand the math.

Okay, I'm confused. According to the VBA, if I S-rank Jack Corvus in my patch, these are the rewards I can get in S-rank, rectangled.

Is it supposed to be that random? It doesn't even look like they're in order. It "jumps".

EDIT:

When I got a 10 rank, it hit me. Simply put, that was S-rank, and going down and right 2, gives you the other two for S-rank, probably the ones where the lines between S and 10 are blurred. i.e. you get 10 or S-rank and you'd get those two possible rewards.

I was just working on my patch, when I found a Gold Mystery data.
Seems capcom messed up in removing all the Hackjack/django related stuff for the EU/US versions:

I just now found out how getting the rewards really plays off based off the busting level.
first it gets the busting level
bitshifts it left by 4(multiplies by 16) and adds a random number to it
then it gets a byte from 08020B9C + the value above.
it randomly adds 2 to it sometimes and if you have very low hp it adds 0x14 to it.
this separates the reward list into 2 parts, 1 for low hp and one for normal. so all rewards after +0x14 are low HP rewards.
