11th November

11th November. Polish Independence Day. Since 1918.

XVIII century was hard for Europe and for Poland. At almost end of XVIII century, Poland hadn't one good Goverment. It was more like Japan under Sengoku period. Poland was divided under many magnate and true power was their not the King. King was only a puppet. Yes, we had something like Lower House (called Sejm in Poland), but one Liberum Veto ("I freely forbid") from every single deputy and everything that session of Sejm did has been gone.

Because of that, Polish Sejm practically can nothing and Poland didn't increased in the Europe. It was like in stagnation. At Third of May, 1791 because of intrigue from Polish patriots, at night Sejm enacted Constitution of May 3. As You know from my previous topic about Polish History, that was first Constitution in the Europe and second in the entire world (first was USA one).

Many of Polish traitors hate it. They went to Russia to make a military conflict. Two years later - 1793 - Russia and Prussia made Second Partition of Poland (First was in 1772). That was only one Partition without Austria. Because of Tadeusz Kościuszko (Polish and American hero) and his war against Russia in 1794, at 1795 Poland had Third (and last) Partition of Poland. Prussia, Russia and Austria.

After Third Partition of Poland, Poland disappeared from Europe maps for a 123 years. Poland get freedom after end of WWI. One of our great generals (later Marshal) - Józef Piłsudski - made a 11th November an Independence Day. But later wasn't well with that date. After WWII and because of Big Three and their conferences, Russia (again :/) gain control of East Europe, in particular Poland. Holiday was moved to 22 July - day of proclamation of July Manifesto (1944).

After 1989, when Poland gain sovereignty (later CCCP - Cep Cepa Cepem Pogania (for other nations, USSR) - was changed to Russian Federation), Independence Day moved back to 11th November and it is like right now.
